Content Object (Middle School Mathematics)

I selected the Content Object option over the Information Literacy option because I am always trying to find new and fun ways for my students to be able to learn so that nothing is repetitive and my students will not get bored of the curriculum; lectures.
Tools for 7th Grade Math:

  • iTooch 7th Grade Math App

Description: iTooch 7th Grade Math is a new and fun way of practicing and learning Mathematics for 7th Graders. This app is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

  • Maya Numbers App:
Description: This app offers up a simple game that will have players using tap, swipe, and tap-and-hold gestures to add dots, dashes, and shells to represent 1, 5, and 0, the three numbers used by Mayans for addition and a form of multiplication.

  • Buzz Math App:

Description: This app offers thousands of Common Core-aligned math problems that cover 6th, 7th, and 8th grade curriculum. Students can play with the app for free, and teachers can use it with an entire class. The app tracks students’ mastery of problems and offers a reporting tool for teachers. The app is also enabled for SmartBoards.

I am a fan of all three apps! I love how the apps cam be used on an iPad, iPhone, smartphone, and smart board. This already shows variety with the apps. I feel that my students may prefer learning from fun and colorful apps rather than me lecturing throughout the class period.

I believe the Buzz Math App is my favorite because it elaborates on number lines, number properties, integers, fractions, decimals, rational numbers, percent, ratios, and proportions, algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities, patterns, tables, and coordinate grids. It seems to have everything in just one app. I am also able to create a teacher account and distribute my classroom code to one of my classes where I can instruct students to create their own account using my classroom code. I would also be able to send assignments and follow my students’ progression. I believe the Buzz Math App has a little bit more to offer than the other two apps listed above. I feel as a teacher using the Buzz Math App, I can do more and more can be done with both my students and myself.
